The Seikan Tunnel is a railway tunnel in Japan. It stretches a length of 53.85 km where a major portion of the journey is under the seabed. Yeah, you heard right. The tunnel is beneath the Tsugaru Strait connecting the Aomori Prefecture in Honshu Island to the northern areas of the Hokkaido. The track is 100 m below the seabed and about 240 m below sea level.

The word Seikan comes from the initial of the cities Aomori and Hakodate, which are the last major cities connecting by this track. The tunnel and the railway are operated by the Hokkaido Railway Company. The tunnel may be recognized as the longest tunnel for the underwater railway, but the portion dipped under the water is less than the underwater railway tunnel connected from UK to France.
